Hi, I have now written a new field note on my website:
WOW! A while ago I posted about a cheetah mother who trusted me enough to leave her cubs with me while she went hunting. When she came back with a gazelle she placed it right by my car and started eating with her cubs. Maybe she reasoned that lions and hyenas would be less likely to steal her prey if she stay close to me. Whatever the reason, it enabled me to get this photo in the point of view as if you were one of the cubs joining the meal. What a day!!! 😀

It is a life changing experience to look into the eyes of a silverback gorilla in his own forest. Our DNA is about 98% identical to that of the gorilla, and you can see i in his intelligent and pensive eyes. To walk through the dense rainforest and then suddenly see him there on close range is indescribable. That’s why I’m so happy to work in cooperation with www.jambotours.se to be able to do this regularly. Already looking forward to the next trip.

Sad storys happen every day in the wild. This zebra foal had lost its mum and the whole herd. It was so desperate for company it started running after my car. When I stopped it came right to the car and tried to suckle milk from it. When I got out of the car is came leaning to my legs as it was looking for body contact. I must say I had quite a hard time, knowing there were nothing I could do for it. The sun was already setting. At the same time it was an incredible experience getting the trust from such a fragile being. The fur was incredibly soft and as you can see, you can’t get any cuter.
I know that this is part of life on the Savannah, but it still moves you when it gets personal.

At least the lion is upside up. 😉This male was enjoying life, rolling around on his back. I also got down, lying on the ground the get the low eye-level shot. This seemed to interest him and he gave me this nice look straight into the camera.

Three lion cubs. One suckling milk, one paying attention and on getting slightly squashed by mum. Lion cubs normally suckle milk until about 6-8 months of age. They do not only suckle milk from their own mum but can drink milk from any other lactating lioness in the pride. Since lionesses in a pride often synchronise giving birth there is often several lactating lions available.

Young lions sometimes climb a tree just for fun. What is also a lot of fun is attacking the hind feet of a fellow lion trying to climb a tree. Here even the attacker’s feet are being attacked by another attacker 😂

The Ugandan Kob is a beautiful antelope. This male has made himself even more beautiful by decorating himself with some plants.

The Black-winged Kite is among the most beautiful birds of prey in the world with their deep red eyes and soft predominantly white feathers. Being a small raptor it normally preys on large insects, lizards and small rodents.

The look of a concerned mother. This leopard had two playful cubs on a rock in Serengeti National Park. I took this photo just as darkness fell. With hungry bellies to feed she had to go out hunting and left the rock. This was the last glance back she gave the cubs before disappearing into the dark.

WHAT AN EXPERIECE! I spotted these cheetahs on open treeless Serengeti plain. As I stopped, they saw the shadow by the car and came to me. A couple even crawled under the car and stayed for hours. They were so relaxed I could hear them purring, sounding somewhat similar to the engine of a tractor.

Extremely proud to be a part of this fantastic book!
It is an absolute honour when wild animals put their trust in you. While driving around in the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania I came across a female cheetah with four little cubs. The mother trusted me so much that she left her cubs with me when she went hunting. She caught a gazelle and brought it back and put it right next to the car and started eating it with her cubs. When they were done with their meal I gently put my camera out low in the grass using a monopod. Here one of the cubs came close to the camera to satisfy its curiosity. They are absolutely adorable! Thank you cheetahs for this fantastic moment in my life.

A group of elephants moving across the Serengeti plains at sunrise. If you look closely, the silhouettes of zebras can be seen further away. Still further, the beautiful rock formations called kopjes, some of the oldest rock formations on earth. Copyright: Daniel Rosengren

WOW! I am very honoured and glad that Leonardo DiCaprio’s foundation @leonardodicaprio posted one of my photos (this one) on Instagram to highlight poaching and snaring issues in the Serengeti National Park. As a conservation photographer the best thing that can happen is that your photos are used to actually making the world a better place. I do think that what Leonardo DiCaprio does is extremely important, using his influence to inform the world about the many global issues we are facing right now and actually supporting many projects and initiatives that are trying to make a difference. Go Leonardo! I took this close-up photo of two young lions in the Serengeti National Park, Tanzania.
