Dar Al Mussawir invites you to the opening of
“My Friend Bacchus”
A painting exhibition by the Lebanese Artist Rim El Jundi, on Thursday October 18 at 6:00 pm.
About “My Friend Bacchus”:
“Let me tell you about Bacchus. You know of course that he is the God of wine and pleasures. But what you don’t know about him is that he’s the friend who took my hand and guided me through everything.
I met him when I was a child. Back then, I used to see him during Sunday’s slow and happy lunches at home, and in the glass of Arak in my father’s hand. In those times, Bacchus took the face of sweet tranquillity. I had to wait years later for him to take the face of a saviour. It happened when I became a young woman in Beirut living under the war. The terror was tremendous, but Bacchus, the wizard of pleasures, found the solution. He guided me to the little corners of the city streets where friends and strangers sat at the bar drinking and no longer feared death.
I do not need Bacchus to save me anymore. He is just my friend. We share the fun, the laughter and we stay out in the evenings drinking with others. At the end of the night, he walks me home.”
About “Rim El Jundi”:
Born in Beirut in 1965, El Jundi holds a holds a BA in Fine Arts from LAU and a DEA in Sacred Art from USEK.
She started her solo exhibitions in Beirut in 1992 with several galleries. She also took part of several group exhibitions such as: Imago Mundi (Italy, 2017), Convergence: New Art from Lebanon (Washington, 2010), The 8 at Triangle Arts Studio (New York, 2005), Lebanon: The Artist’s View at Cork street gallery (London, 2004), Alexandria Biennale (Egypt, 1997) and Sursock Museum and Ashkal Alwan (Beirut 1995).
The exhibition continues until November 1, 2018.

“صديقي باخوس”
معرض رسم للفنانة اللبنانية ريم الجندي وذلك نهار الخميس ١٨ تشرين أول عند الساعة السادسة.
عن “صديقي باخوس”:
“دعوني أخبركم عن باخوس، هو بالطبع إله الخمر والمتع. لكنه أيضاً صديقي الذي أخذ بيدي.
تعرفت عليه حين كنت طفلة. كنت أراه على موائد الأحد البيتية البطيئة الهانئة ومع كأس العرق في يد أبي. في ذلك الزمن كان لباخوس وجه الاطمئنان اللذيذ.
كان علي انتظار سنوات عديدة ليصير له أيضاً وجه المخلص وتحديداً حين صرت شابة أعيش بيروت وحربها. كان الرعب هائلاً، لكن باخوس ساحر المتع وجد الحل. قادني إلى الزوايا الصغيرة في شوارع المدينة حيث يجلس الأصدقاء والغرباء على البار يشربون كؤوسهم غير خائفين من الموت.
لم أعد أحتاج لباخوس كي يخلصني. هو فقط صديقي. نتشارك معاً اللهو والضحك مع الساهرين، ليعود فيرافقني سيراً على الأقدام إلى البيت آخر الليل.”
عن “ريم الجندي”:
مواليد بيروت عام ١٩٦٥، حصلت على ليسانس في الفنون الجميلة من الجامعة اللبنانية الأميركية وعلى دبلوم دراسات معمقَة في الفن المقدس من جامعة الروح القدس – الكسليك.
أقامت معارض فردية في بيروت منذ العام ١٩٩٢ في عدد من الغاليريات. شاركت أيضاً في العديد من المعارض الجماعية منها، ايماجو موندي (ايطاليا ٢٠١٧)، تقارب: فن جديد من لبنان (واشنطن، ٢٠١٠)، ال 8 في تراينغل آرت ستوديو (نيويورك، ٢٠٠٥)، لبنان: رؤية الفنان في غاليري كورك ستريت (لندن، ٢٠٠٤)، بينالي الاسكندرية (مصر ١٩٩٧) ومتحف سرسق وأشكال ألوان (بيروت ١٩٩٥).
يستمر المعرض لغاية ١ تشرين ثاني ٢٠١٨
