Museum of the Moon is a new touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram.
Measuring seven metres in diameter, the moon features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. At an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 5km of the moon’s surface.
From the beginning of human history, the moon has acted as a ‘cultural mirror’ to our beliefs, understanding and ways of seeing. Over the centuries, the moon has been interpreted as a god and as a planet. It has been used as a timekeeper, calendar and to aid nighttime navigation. Throughout history the moon has inspired artists, poets, scientists, writers and musicians the world over. The ethereal blue light cast by a full moon, the delicate crescent following the setting sun, or the mysterious dark side of the moon has evoked passion and exploration. Different cultures around the world have their own historical, cultural, scientific and religious relationships to the moon.
the Museum of the Moon landed in Udaipur where it was showcased at the City Palace’s Moti Chowk.Numerous people of the Lake City and tourists were enthralled not only to see the ‘Moon’ so close but also to feel its magnificence. They posed in various positions, some danced, some pretended to hold it on palm and carry on shoulders, while others kissed under the massive structure and rejoiced.

متحف القمر هو عمل فني جديد من قبل الفنان البريطاني لوك jerram.
قياس سبعة امتار في القطر, يتميز القمر 120 dpi بالتفصيل صور ناسا من سطح القمر. وعلى مقياس تقريبي من 1:500,000, يمثل كل سنتيمتر من النحت الكروي داخليا داخليا على بعد 5 كيلومترا من سطح القمر.
منذ بداية تاريخ البشرية, اصبح القمر “مراة ثقافية” لمعتقداتنا وفهمهم وطرق رؤيته. على مر القرون, تم تفسير القمر على انه اله وكوكب. لقد تم استخدامه كم الوقت للوقت والتقويم ولمساعدة الملاحة الليلية. عبر التاريخ, كان القمر قد الهم الفنانين والشعراء والعلماء والكتاب وال الموسيقيين في جميع انحاء العالم. الضوء الازرق اثيري الذي القى به القمر الكامل, والهلال الدقيق الذي يتبع الشمس, او الجانب المظلم الغامض من القمر اثار العاطفة والاستكشاف. والثقافات المختلفة في جميع انحاء العالم لها علاقاتها التاريخية والثقافية والعلمية والدينية مع القمر.
وقد هبط متحف القمر في اودايبور حيث تم عرضه في قصر مدينة موتي تشوك. العديد من الناس في مدينة البحيرة والسياح كانوا مفتونة ليس فقط لرؤية ‘القمر’ قريب جدا ولكن ايضا لتشعر روعتها. وقد تشكل في مواقف مختلفة, بعضهم رقص, وبعضهم يتظاهر بانه يحملها على النخيل وتحمل على الاكتاف, بينما يقبل اخرون تحت الهيكل الهائل و فرح.
